School-Parent Compact

2024-2025

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Our school is participating in a supportive reading program which supplements the students’ general classroom reading instruction.  Reading specialists will serve as literacy coaches for the teachers and work with small groups of students with research-based reading instruction.

The completion of a home/school compact is an essential component of the program.  This compact outlines how the parents/guardians, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

School Responsibilities
Our school will:
  • Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement as follows:
    • An approved curriculum that aligns with PA core standards
    • Research-based instructional programs
    • Highly qualified teachers to implement the curriculum

  • Hold parent-teacher conferences.  Conferences will be held in November and March
  • Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress.  Report cards will be sent home three times per year at the end of each trimester and Interim report at mid-trimester times.
  • Provide parents/guardians reasonable access to staff.  Staff members will be available via e-mail, by phone, or scheduled meetings.  Contact information for each school is available on the District Website, http://www.cdschools.org/.
  • Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities as described in the school handbook and guidelines set forth in the district and school Health and Safety Plan.
Parent Responsibilities
We, as parents, may support our children’s learning in the following ways:
  • Monitoring attendance (in the school building or virtually depending on parent choice and/or school closures).
  • Making sure that homework is completed.
  • Monitoring amount of television watched.
  • Volunteering in my child’s classroom when directives allow.
  • Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education.
  • Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
  • Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate.
  • Serving, to the extent possible, on parent discussion groups.
  • Attending school-sponsored workshops and/or events.
Student Responsibilities
I, as a student, will share the responsibility to improve my academic achievement and achieve the State's high standards. Specifically, I will:
  • Do my homework every fay and ask for help when I need it
  • Read every day outside of school time
  • Give my parents/guardians all notices and information received from my school every day.
  • Treat distance learning the same as learning in the school classroom (whether by parent choice or by school closure).
