Classroom Lessons:

Classroom lessons are a Tier 1 resource tied to our social emotional learning (SEL) goals as a school and district. Classroom lessons are provided automatically for all students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. My classroom lessons prepare students by supporting their academic, career, and personal/social emotional development. I implement lessons based on what developmental, social, and emotional needs are identified for each grade level. I utilize books, tools, and evidence based curriculum such as The Zones of Regulation, Second Step, SmartFutures, Little Spot Books, and more.

Some skills we may focus on throughout any given year in lessons are:

  • Identifying feelings
  • Managing stress
  • Executive functioning and study skills
  • Managing big feelings and emotions
  • Respecting others perspectives
  • Showing empathy and compassion to others
  • Problem solving
  • Teamwork
  • Conflict resolution
  • Mindfulness
  • Positive thinking and growth mindset
  • Dealing with peer pressure
  • Bullying prevention
  • Emotional regulation

Each grade level has a specific list of lessons and themes that they will use throughout the year. If there are any concerns, needs, or questions you may have regarding what your student will be working on this year, please do not hesitate to reach out! Also, be on the lookout for my monthly counseling corner newsletter where you can see more about what we are learning and focusing on in lessons.
